Last sunday saw us down at the beautiful venue of  Auberge du Lac. A fanastic Michelin star restaurant in the grounds of Brocket Hall just outside of Harpenden shooting the wedding of Amie & Michael. We started off at the couples house in Much Hadden photographing the bride getting ready, after a few shots at a very cool barn door with her sister & parents we headed off to the ceremony.

It was a shame that horses & rabbits couldn't make it but we did manage to get a couple of shots of the lovely rabbits! Having not shot at the venue before it was good that we arrived with a little time to go as the ceremony room was pretty dark but beautifully formed! It gave us time to set out a plan to cover the ceremony properly!

A great day was had by everyone, we had to dodge a little rain but manged to get the couple outside for a few piccies when the light was the best it had been all day! A huge thank you to everyone at Auberge du Lac for their hospitality and to Amie & Michael and family for having us shoot their wedding and for a wonderful day.

Here are a few pictures from the day:

The end of April saw us shoot the wedding of Richard & Sam at The Sopwell House Hotel. We had a great day dodging the rain and using the grounds and building to the best of our ability. With guests from all over the world and most of the brides family coming from Trinidad & Tobago, this made for a very colorful wedding with Sam looking beautiful in her gorgeous sleek dress and Richard very smart in his dark blue suit. It was a very relaxed wedding with canopies & drinks being served afterwards on the lawn & terrace before the weather changed! Thank you to all for our hospitality on the day. Here are a few images from the wedding. We look forward to the couple seeing the rest.

We are delighted to be photographing the wedding of Paul & Kelly this year in June. Last week we met for a coffee in Primrose Hill. After chatting about the wedding day we went for a walk for 30 mins and had a shoot in the streets. The pre-wed shoot is all about having fun and getting to know the couple, keeping the shoot as easy as we can and working with the couple to create some cool and informal shots. A huge thank you to Paul & Kelly for marching around town with us and for being so easy to work with. We very much look forward to your wedding. Here are a few images from the shoot:

Friday saw us shoot the beautiful wedding of Melissa & Andy at The Star Inn Nr Helmsley, outside of York. It was great to have a wedding in the North, it has been a while! The sun was cracking the flags when we arrived and it stayed with us all day! The sun can pose its own problems sometimes so it's a good job we at Brett Harkness Photography know how to handle super bright as well as very dark conditions!

Melissa stopped off at the nearby pub section of the Star Inn for a quick drink with her father before they walked over to the waiting congregation & husband to be, Andy! After a very personal ceremony, family & friends spent an hour or so having drinks on the terrace. The couple live at the moment in Dubai so a lot of their very close friends also made the journey over! Taking advantage of the time we had in the afternoon we went for a walk with the couple and had some great fun for 20-30 mins.  Looking for some cool places to use in the tiny village of Helmsley!

You will be amazed what you can use for a background if the couple are up for it! A great old red tin door, a piece of metal against a wall threw back the most amazing light, a concrete wall and a well placed chair in a field all made for some great shots. During the meal a surprise helicopter landed on the nearby field to whisk the couple off for an amazing flight over the surrounding area as the sun set over the beautiful Yorkshire hills. What a way to finish the day! A huge thank you to Melissa, Andy and the whole family and also the staff at The Star Inn for their amazing hospitality. Also to assistant Paul for his lugging around of gear all day!

Last week saw us shoot the wedding of Zoe & Martin at the amazing Danesfield House outside of Marlow on Thames. It was forecast for snow at around 4pm so we knew things were going to be tight!

Despite the cold everyone stayed outside the church whilst the champagne was opened , giving us ample time to take some lovely photographs of Martin & Zoe before heading back over the bridge into Marlow. Drinks & canapes on arrival greeted all as did the fire of the great hall!  The snow didn't come until 6ish when everyone was eating but when it came it came hard! Thank you to Zoe & Martin for all of your hospitality on the day  and for letting us do the last shot in the snow! We hope you both had a wonderful honeymoon? The night finished with a wonderful ceilidh dance which was enjoyed by all and no better place to be for everyone as the snow fell!

If you are getting married this year we still have a few dates available. Please contact the studio for more information. We are also now taking bookings for 2013. Thank you to Ross & Paul for assisting on the day.

Here are a just a few images from your wedding day.

Hi Brett, the last image is just on the money. just perfect for the end of an album. may I ask if the rear light was a quadra, the key light is gorgeous. would you share the set up for this shot, understand if you not able. Trust you family are well.

  • Jules (02.15.2012 | 09:00)

Hi Brett, I agree with Jon, that last image is simply stunning, and I too would love to know a little bit about how you took it if at all possible. Is that rain? are they getting wet!

Thanks everyone for your comments. For those who asked the last snow shot was taken with just one speedlight behind them and using just the reflective light from this with a little modelling light from the ranger pack to fill in the faces. Keeping the front light very soft. They were dry all the time 'mostly!' under a White archway which we were using to 'throw' back some light!

  • Alison Edwards (02.16.2012 | 09:05)

Fantastic photos... Last image is stunning :-)
